If you’re out on the beaches, south of San Juan del Sur, but you’re more of a swimmer than a surfer, you should head down the shoreline to Bahia Majagual. The area will still be packed with beach bums and surfers—this region is like the mother ship for surfers—but you’ll find great spots to swim in calm waters most of the time, though the current may make you want to stay close to shore. There are excellent accommodations here, along with a good restaurant, cheap beer, plenty of hammocks, surfing lessons and horseback rides—this place is a party paradise.
