This well known reserve in Panama is actually very important to the country. It is the home to hundreds of bird species and mammals, and many other reptile and amphibian species. Apart from that, at least one third of the animal species here are endangered or rare. From common animals to really rare ones, you can find almost any type of animal here. Just to name a few; woodpeckers, iguana, warbles, small crocodiles, and many more. The reserve, although unique and beautiful is terribly swampy. It is so wet that you will basically be covered with black mud while walking, up to your knees! And walking around in these mushy lands can be quite a task.
Getting there
The reserve is not difficult to reach. It is located some three miles north of Changuinola, so you can easily get here either by taxi or 4WD from the Changuinola bus station. It may help you to remember that this reserve is located at the edge of a huge banana plantation. Make sure you get connected with the driver, for it’s quite hard to find transport out from this reserve.
