One of the largest islands here in this part of the country is Isla Popa, there are also many smaller islands. There are two Ngöbe Buglé communities living here, which are recognized by two different names; Popa 1 and Popa 2. The first one is where they live near the river and basically survive on it by fishing. This part of the island is known for its beautiful landscape, which ranges from very thick forest to mangrove. The forests are naturally the habitat to various types of wildlife, notably the toucans. The second village is basically a place for the migrants from Cayo Agua, Popa 1 and Isla Tigre. Fishing is also equally important here, but nowadays tourism has become more important. You can even find a handicraft shop selling nice crafts, set up by a local women’s organization. There’s also some good accommodation coming soon, and the villagers are offering to guide tourists around the mangrove forest.
