Just off the Panamerica Highway sits the oldest town in Panama, and one of the oldest in the Americas, Natá which was founded in 1520. The Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol, which was built in 1522, is now sadly mostly in ruins although you can still go and have a look at what’s left. It’s still quite impressive and there are some interesting carvings to see.
Most of the accommodations are along the highway rather than in town, and you can get there by bus from Panama City.
