Escobal is situated very close to Colón and is a snorkelling and wildlife hotspot. To get here, you will have to take a winding road out of Piña and move south until you reach this lakeside village. The entire route is surrounded by thick forest and is home to the black hawk, montezuma oropendula, spot-crowned barbet, rufous crested coquette, black bellied wren and brown hooded parrot. It is a paradise for bird lovers with occasional sightings of monkeys. If you are looking for some adventure then you can hike on one of the numerous trails into the forest that will take you closer to the birds and the other wildlife. If you are wearing your lucky charm then you might even get a glimpse of the rare crested and harpy eagles and meet a family of howling monkeys.
