Parita is situated 10km from Chitré and is known as the Herrerean town with colonial buildings. Most of the houses in the town are Spanish styles with pleasing flower gardens and Spanish steps. Parita’s architecture dates back to the 18th century with red tiled roofs and ornate porticoes. Hence Parita has this look of a bygone era. The Santo Domingo church in Parita is the major attraction and has a steeple perched above the entrance. It was built in 1723 and has an inlay of mother of pearl, which lights up Parita whenever there is a power cut.
