The Parque Nacional Sarigua is laid out on 8,000 hectares of land. It was opened in 1985 and since then, due to deforestation and cutting down of trees, nothing is left but a huge mass of barren and burnt out land. Agriculture failed and it has become more of an exotic desert. The place gives the resemblance of a death valley with a few cactus trees that seem to be the only vegetation growing here. The scrubland is home to migrating sea gulls and at least 162 other species of migratory birds.
