Pesé known as the sleepy town is famous for its hard liquor and crucifixion. Pesé is the birthplace of Seco Herrerano and the town gets involved every year in the renactment of Christ’s crucifixion. As a result, Pesé is a household name in Panama and crowds flock into the town on good Friday to watch this event. Pesé is situated 20km from La Arena and is surrounded by miles and miles of sugarcane fields. It is home to the the best known producers of Seco, Valera Hermanos. This company was founded by Don José Varela Blanco who came here in 1908. There are regular bus services from Chitré and the best time to visit is during the Holy week, although there will be a lot of congestion on the roads.
