A small, beautiful, costal town in Panama, Punta Chame, is rustic and primitive. With a lack of proper amenities and publicity, it has remained anonymous to the tourist. You'll reach Punta Chame soon after you cross the La Campana Mountains and it happens to be the first beach on the way from Panama City. It is just 14km from the turn for the national park. There is just one access road for the town and all the trouble you'll go through to reach the beach will be well worth it. The beach is untamed, sandy and fringed with tall palms - a lovely experience indeed. The beauty of the beach is further enhanced when, at high tide, the water rises to kiss the rocky shore, but in low tide reveals its underwater secrets, exposing stingrays on the shoreline!
Sightseeing
Walk bare feet to feel the clean, fine sand (perhaps the cleanest in Panama) sift through your toes and revel in the feeling of being liberated. However, the regular sand-dredging activities are posing a serious threat to the future of this gorgeous beach. If you explore the waters northwards, you'll be rewarded with a concentration of mangroves packed with flowers. It's also a popular area for windsurfers. Remember the windsurfing season lasts from December to April.
