Chiclayo is a city on the northern coastal plain in Peru. It is Peru's fourth largest city. It has easy access to mountain passes that allow access to the jungle. Chiclayo is well known for its archaeological sites, such as Túcume, Batán Grande and Huaca Rajada. Chiclayo is also recognised as for its natural medicine, and for having some of the best cuisine in Peru, especially ceviche.

The bus companies, hotels and thieves are very central.

Around and closeby
Sican Museum houses interesting remains of the Sican culture.. It is located 20 minutes from Chiclayo in Ferrenafe.

Sightseeing
Visit the Lord of Sipan tomb. The discovery of the Lord of Sipan, considered the "King Tutankamon of the Americas", is one of the most spectacular tombs discovered in the western hemisphere, located near the city of Chiclayo. Sipan's treasures show the Moche culture's ability with several metals: gold, silver and copper and precious stones in fine quality and a mastery in metallurgy unrivalled in the Americas, centuries before the Incas. The treasures of Sipan tombs are in the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum in Lambayeque.

The Valley of twenty-six pyramids, which were built by the ancient Peruvians, can be visited in Tucume.

Getting there
The two major airlines, Lan Peru and Star Peru, operate daily flights from Lima to Chiclayo.

Getting around
Chiclayo is full of Tico taxis. Short journeys cost around PES/2. Moto taxis cost half the price, are better ventilated, but give less protection.
