Piura is a city in north-western Peru. It is the capital of the Piura Region. The city is well known for its artisans who weave straw hats and make silverware. "Chicha music", now called Tecnocumbia (originally a Peruvian styled cumbia), is also quite popular all over, as well as Salsa among youngsters.

Sightseeing
Piura has many tourist attractions. One of the best known is Colán beach. Colán beach is a very long beach with warm waters. Local people like to go there during holidays. If you enjoy beaches, you have to visit Mancora, Yacila, Punta Sal, Organos and Nunura (for surfers).

Getting there
National buses run along the Panamerican Highway from Lima to Tumbes & some to the frontier with Ecuador.

Getting around
There are frequent kombis north to Mancora.
