A winding, paved road from the coast provides access to the mountain village of Los Alto. Transportation in the form of Jeeps from Puerto La Cruz is easily available everyday and takes about 40 minutes. The village offers a fresh and cool climate, due to its high altitude of 900 metres. It is a typical, single street village with a serpentine path that runs linearly through the rugged terrain for almost 5km, without having any significant centre. The village is surrounded by verdant, hilly forest. Coffee and cacao haciendas can be found everywhere.

Despite the fact that Los Altos de Santa Fé is just 4km away from the coast don't be surprised if you are unable to find any panoramic views of the coastal region or the islands beyond it. You'll enjoy the best scenery as you approach the village from the main road.
