Puerto Cabello was a simple wharf back in the mid 16th century, on the bank of a coastal lagoon and was an ideal natural anchorage that was sheltered from the winds and waves at the same time connected to the sea by a regular strait. Puerto Cabello was definitely the best site for a port on the coast of Venezuela.
