Parque Nacional Morrocoy is one of the most stunning coastal areas in all of Venezuela. The park consists of a mainland strip, islands and islets, adding variety to the topography of this region. Some of the islands have beautiful talcum powder beaches, which are surrounded by beautiful coral reefs. Morrocoy is the most popular park along the eastern edge of the Falcon state, especially amongst those who are looking for beach and snorkelling adventures.
History and Culture
Reputed for the large variety of water birds, particularly the ibis, heron, cormorant, duck, pelican and flamingo, Morrocoy is an ideal habitat for these creatures. These birds can be seen on various occasions inhabiting some of the islands, and mangroves along the coast. The Golfete de Cuare happens to be one of the richest bird breeding areas in Venezuela and is now a declared wildlife refuge in order to protect the environment of these amazing birds.
Sightseeing
Domestic beach goers visit the islands in crowds on holidays and weekends and they tend to leave the beaches dirty. Unfortunately, the already fragile island environment has now begun to show signs of suffering at the hands of humans. But weekdays are free of crowds and you can enjoy yourself on deserted and near virgin beaches.
