The Peninsula de Paraguana has a different geography as compared to the mainland. Its history has heavy influence of the Netherlands Antilles, making it a mysterious yet intriguing anomaly. The peninsula is roughly in the shape of a human head and stretches 60km from north to south and 50km from east to west. The Peninsula de Paraguana is the largest peninsula in Venezuela and covers an area of about 2500 sq km! An island once, this land mass has now been linked to the mainland due to wind and waves having gradually built a sandbar that acts as a bridge.
