Punto Fijo was established in 1925, after an oil terminal serving Lago de Maracaibo was constructed. This development in Amuay and Punta Cardon furthered the development of the then infant town. Punto Fijo now, is primarily an industrial city that is fast approaching the size of Coro the capital of the state, but it is fast paced with a better trading and commerce industry. There isn't much of interest in the city, but you may need to stay overnight here on your way to or from the Netherlands Antilles.

Getting there
Punto Fijo doesn’t have a central bus terminal, but bus-operating companies have their offices located throughout the city centre and it is convenient to book your travel at their office.
