A belt of lush and fertile mountains, picturesque gingerbread towns, brooks, streams, waterfalls, caves and so much more, that's the Sierra de San Luis. It is spread south of Coro's arid coastal boundary and has pleasant balmy climes, scented with exotic flora and fauna and many species of birds, and other animals. The Sierra is also an important source of water for the coastal region up to and beyond the Peninsula de Paraguaná.
History and Culture
In 1987, about 200 sq km of this undulating and rough terrain was converted into a national park. The national park has various levels of elevations with the lowest at 200metres and the highest - Cerro Galicia - at 1501metres. Temperatures range from 15 to 25 degree Celsius, depending on the altitude. Rainfall is moderate, with October - December being wettest.
Around and closeby
The prettiest town around here is San Luis, founded in 1590; it is also one of the oldest Spanish settlements in the area.
Sightseeing
The Cataratas de Hueque is the most dramatic, amazing waterfall in the region.
