Cuidad Bolívar is a great starting point for exploring the region of Lower Orinoco. One of Venezuela's most popular cities, it is situated close to Venezuela's most popular sight , Angel Falls. Although the town has grown a lot over recent years, it still holds the charm of an old, colonial river town.
Tourist Offices
The Corporación de Turismo is at Quinta Yeita, Av Bolívar, which is south of the old town. It's open from 8am – 5.30pm. Monday to Friday, closing for lunch from 12pm - 2pm.
Around and closeby
There are various tours you can go on to see the Angel Falls. You can arrange to fly over them, travel overland to them and then hike around them or sail to them. You can also arrange to go via Canaima, La Paragua and Kavac.
There are other tours you can do, including the very popular visit to Gran Sabana or to the top of Roraima.
Sightseeing
Wander along the waterfront boulevard, Paseo Orinoco, and have a look around from the great viewpoint of Mirador Angostura. This rocky headland juts out over the river and allows you to see a long way up and down the river. You can even see the Puente de Angostura, the only bridge over the river. The Parque El Zanjón is a city park full of huge boulders. There is an art gallery called Casa de Tejas sitting on one of the boulders. The Feria del Orinoco takes place in late August, the celebrations include an agricultural fair, a Sapoara fishing competition and water sports as well as other popular cultural events.
