The young metropolis of Cuidad Guayana is growing fast. Only fifty years old, it is already one of the richest cities in the country. Full of fancy restaurants and hotels, trendy bars and buzzing nightclubs, the town with no past but a great future is well worth a visit.

Tourist Offices
The Punto de Información Turistica is at the Puerto Ordaz bus terminal and it's open from 7am – 8pm. The Unidad de Turismo is on the corner of Calle Orinoco and Carrera Ribas, San Félix. It's open from 8am – 4pm, Monday to Friday, closing from noon until 1pm for lunch.

Sightseeing
The Parque Cachamay is 52 hectares of woodland, next to the river. The views of the river are fantastic from here. The slow running river turns into rapids and then into stunning waterfalls, a line of them, over 200 metres across. It can be dangerous to wander to the lonely areas of the park so be sure to stay in the more crowded areas. Head south-west to the much larger Parque Loefling. It has a small zoo where most of the animals wander around freely. There is another park called Parque La Llovizna, which covers twenty-six islands and is connected by thirty-six footbridges, it has some spectacular waterfalls including the 20 metre high La Llovizna. The Ecomuseo del Caroní is close to Parque La Llovizna and it houses an art gallery, a photographic exhibition and a collection of pre-Hispanic pottery.

Getting there
The Puerto Ordaz airport is west on the road to Cuidad Bolívar, you can reach it by buses marked 'Sidor Directo'. The airport is serviced by most domestic airlines. There are direct flights to Porlamar, Valencia, Caracas and Barcelona. The city's main bus terminal is 1km south of the San Félix centre. Don't hang around the terminal at night as it is not safe. There are daily buses from Caracas, Cuidad Bolívar, Tucupita, Maturín and Carúpano. There are also direct buses to Maracay and Valencia.
