Kamarata is an ancient Pemon village at the south eastern base of Auyantepui, along the Rio Akanan. Kamarata was discovered as an alternative access point to the very popular and dramatic Angel falls a few decades ago. Since then, this village has become an attractive destination for adventure travellers.
Around and closeby
In a dedicated attempt to draw tourists to enhance economy, the locals constructed a new village named Kavac, which now attracts most of the tourist traffic from Kamarata (whatever little there is). It will take you two hours on foot to reach Kavac from Kamarata or you can drive down the dirt road.
Sightseeing
Kamarata and Kavac are starting points for an interesting trip to the top of the Auyantepui. This is a long and adventurous hike, and you can get a guide from either of the two villages.
