San Miguel is famous for its colonial church - the Iglesia de San Miguel. The main event or festival in the town is Romeria de los Pastores y los Reyes Magos or the Pilgrimage of the Shepherds and Magi that is celebrated every year form 4-7 January.

Sightseeing
The colonial church is a squat structure with an austere façade and dates back to around the 1760’s. The church has some peculiar features like the roofed external corridors on both sides, and a Latin cross layout that is rarely ever used in Venezuela. But the best feature of the church is the18th century retable in the high altar. This has been decorated with painted motifs in bright colours and in charming youthful style. The retable has gained the reputation for being one of the most beautiful and traditional (folk) retables in Venezuela. So, even if you are not much of a church fan, you must visit this colonial church which is just 27km north of Boncono through rustic countryside.
