Locally famed for the many factories producing clothing and knitted goods, Atuntaqui also claims to be the birthplace of the Inca Atahualpa. His mother Princess Toa is believed to be buried in a huge nearby earthen grave (Antonio Ante).

Getting there
Passing buses between Otavalo and Ibarra pick up passengers on the Panamerican highway, as do long distance buses if they have empty seats.
